End of "Service Provider Advantage":
How AI Breaks the 30-Year Elevator Industry Paradigm

Published: November 2025 | Category: AI Strategy

"I Feel Something is Changing, but I Don't Know What..."

From our conversations with local elevator companies, we know that many of you feel anxious about both the incoming AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology and the already noticeable policy of aggressive data collection and transmission from your elevator installations to the internet 'cloud'. These concerns are often difficult to articulate. This article aims to capture and name the essence of this threat.

The End of a 30-Year Paradigm

For the past 30 years, the industry has been dominated by the principle of 'incumbent service provider advantage'.

Winning a service contract gave you a fundamental advantage – the best technical knowledge of the installation. The customer was confident that you knew "everything" about their elevator and was reluctant to change service providers.

This era is coming to an end.

The New Weapon: 5 Minutes to Lose Trust

AI combined with IoT (Internet of Things) reverses the situation. It creates a crushing information asymmetry working against you.

In 2 years, a representative from a global corporation will need just 5 minutes to prove to your customer that you know NOTHING about their elevator.

You will present the customer with a report on door contact adjustments. They will show the "Elevator Book" with detailed analysis: door operation statistics, contacts and latches data, elevator user behavior patterns, proposed control parameter adjustments, and potential improvements in elevator efficiency and energy savings.

The result? An information knockout and loss of a customer who lost trust in you in 5 minutes. Now the elevator user will not fear changing service providers. They will fear leaving the service in your hands!

IMPORTANT: It's Not Just Corporate Elevators!

The same mechanism applies to imported, "closed" control systems and elevator electronics. Any system that sends data "to the cloud" of the manufacturer becomes a tool to take over your market – even if it's installed in your own enclosure.

How Does AI Enable This? (Two Steps)

This strategy is possible thanks to the dual role AI plays:

Step 1: AI as a "Pretext" for Cloud Connection

AI is a "cloud" service. Manufacturers will use this argument to force a permanent elevator connection to the internet (to their servers). This is a "Trojan horse" – once connected, you lose control over the data.

Step 2: AI as an Analytical "Engine"

After gaining access, AI becomes an engine that collects and processes operational data on a massive scale. It enables automatic reporting, solution planning, and schedule creation, and most importantly – generating a personalized "Elevator Book" for each individual installation.

This is Not a Distant Future. It's Happening Now.

The necessary infrastructure (modems, IoT terminals, data transmission) in control systems ALREADY EXISTS.

Currently, global manufacturers are in the phase of "arming" this infrastructure – they are working intensively on integrating this data with AI systems. Full operational readiness of these mechanisms is a matter of the next 1-3 years.

"Cutting Off AI" is Not a Solution

The first thought? "I won't install it, I'll cut off data transmission".

This is a trap. Even if it can be done, disconnecting from AI and IoT is not a solution – it's a straight path to becoming a "technological museum piece".

Elevator users are already hearing about AI, new technologies, services, and optimization. They will start demanding these features themselves. If you don't offer them, the customer will still choose modernity – meaning another offer.

Our Answer: "Safe AI" for Local Elevator Industry

We don't have to be either a "museum piece" or a "hostage" to new technologies. There is a third way.

At SterDźwig, we believe that technology should empower the local market, not colonize it. Our "Safe AI" philosophy is based on 3 pillars:

1. OPEN SYSTEM

No "black boxes". The elevator manufacturer, control equipment, or electronics producer cannot have access to any data that you don't have access to.

2. YOUR DATA OWNERSHIP

You decide where the data goes, how it's stored, and how it's used.

3. PARTNERSHIP, NOT COMPETITION

We treat you as partners. We are your R&D department that provides technology to compete with the largest manufacturers. Our goal is to strengthen your business, not take it away.

The Choice is Yours

In the new AI era, "incumbent service provider advantage" ceases to exist. It's replaced by "information advantage". The question is not "will AI enter elevators?", but:

Will you use this technology to strengthen your position, or will you allow it to become a tool to take away your market?

Our plan for using AI in the industry differs significantly from the scenario described above. We invite you to familiarize yourself with our vision for the development of the local elevator industry in 2026.
